January 4, 2008– Patchogue, NY – Award-Winning Long Island Microbrewer, Blue Point Brewing Company, will host the 4th annual BLUE POINT CASK ALE FESTIVAL on Saturday, January 26th, 2008 where it will tap the world’s largest cask filled with their custom, featured brew, Rye Hop Knot. The event is open to the public and record numbers are expected.

Cask Ale, or Cask Beer, is the term used in the U.S. to refer to unfiltered and unpasteurized beer that is conditioned and served from a cask. Attendees at the Blue Point Brewery event will be able to walk right up to the cask and get the freshest, highest quality beer they’ve ever tasted. “This is such a unique opportunity and such a fun event, we look forward to it all year long,” said Mark Burford, Brewmaster at Blue Point Brewery. “Nowhere else will you find more than 700 people gathered outdoors, under a tent in the middle of winter and not hear one complaint about the cold,” he added.

South Hampton Publick House, Black Forest Brewery, Long Island Meadery, Brooklyn Brewery, John Harvard’s Brew House, The Brickhouse Brewery, Captain Lawrence Brewing Company, Iron Hill, Keegan Ales, and select others will be on hand to pour their beer as well. Local BBQ restaurant and caterer, Bobbique, will be on-site preparing delicious food to compliment these fine craft beers. Chef Eric Rifkin of Bobbique was named Restauranteur of the Year 2007 by the Long Island Chapter of the New York State Restaurant Association.

The Cask Ale Festival will take place on Saturday, January 26th, from 1 pm to 5 pm at the Blue Point Brewery--161 River Ave. Patchogue, New York. Tickets to the event are $30.00 and designated drivers are admitted for $10.00. Tickets can be purchased online at the or at the brewery on the day of the event for $40.00 if tickets are still available. Attendees will receive a half-pint English-style commemorative glass and six tasting tickets (additional tickets are $3). Plus, they will also receive a coupon good for one free half-gallon growler of beer to be redeemed next time they visit the tasting room at Blue Point Brewery. Only those 21 and over with valid photo ID will be admitted to the event.

Long-time friends Peter Cotter and Mark Burford founded the Blue Point Brewery in 1998. Their dream of having fresh, local beer and their commitment to using only the highest quality ingredients, has empowered them to produce many national and international awards. For many, “this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to taste the beer right out of the tank like the brewers always do,” said Mr. Cotter. Peter Cotter and Mark Burford were recently honored by the Long Island Chapter of the New York State Restaurant Association as Associate Members of the Year, 2007.
