FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BLUE POINT BREWERY TO TAP WORLD'S LARGEST CASK
January 7, 2009 - Patchogue, NY - Award-Winning Long Island Microbrewer, Blue Point Brewing Company, will host the 5th annual BLUE POINT CASK ALE FESTIVAL on Saturday, January 24th, 2009 where it will tap the world's largest cask filled with their custom, featured brew, Rastafar Rye Ale. The event is open to the public and record numbers are expected despite the chilly January forecast.
Cask Ale, or Cask Beer, is the term used in the U.S. to refer to unfiltered and unpasteurized beer that is conditioned and served from a cask. Attendees at the Blue Point Brewery event will be able to walk right up to the cask and get the freshest, highest quality beer they've ever tasted. "This is such a unique opportunity and such a fun event, we look forward to it all year long," said Mark Burford, Brewmaster at Blue Point Brewery. "Nowhere else will you find more than 900 people gathered outdoors, under a tent, in the middle of winter and not hear one complaint about the cold," he added.
The world's largest cask holds nearly 10,000 pints of beer and is housed at the Blue Point Brewing Company. On January 24, 2009, festival attendees will be able to sample Blue Point's Rastafar Rye Ale, a rye pale ale created specially for the cask festival. The recipe combines plump hearty rye malt with freshly harvested American hops. "What we ended up with is delicious, deep copper colored ale with just the right amount of rye flavor to offset the spicy floral characteristics of the hops," said Alan Brady, Brewer, Blue Point Brewing Company.
South Hampton Publick House, Black Forest Brewery, Brooklyn Brewery, John Harvard's Brew House, The Brickhouse Brewery, Captain Lawrence Brewing Company, Iron Hill, Keegan Ales, and select others will be on hand to pour their specially prepared cask beer as well. As a special treat, the largest home brew club on Long Island, the Brewers East End Revival (B.E.E.R.), is preparing a special beer to be shared with festival attendees on event day. BBQ restaurant and caterer, Famous Dave's, will be on-site selling delicious food to compliment the many fine craft beers.
The Cask Ale Festival will take place on Saturday, January 24th, from 1 pm to 5 pm at the Blue Point Brewery-161 River Ave., Patchogue, NY 11772. Tickets to the event are $35.00 each, designated driver tickets are $10.00. The tickets can be purchased online at the www.bluepointbrewing.com or prior to event day at the brewery. A limited number of tickets will be sold. Once the event sells out, no additional tickets will be available. Attendees will receive a half-pint English-style commemorative glass and six tasting tickets (additional tickets are $3 each). Plus, they will also receive a coupon good for one free half-gallon growler of beer to be redeemed next time they visit the Blue Point Brewing Co. tasting room. Only those 21 and over with valid photo ID will be admitted to the event. No children or pets permitted.
For many, "this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to taste the beer right out of the tank like the brewers always do," said Burford. "We're celebrating Blue Point Brewing Company's tenth anniversary in 2009 and we can't think of a better way to kick off a year of festivities," he added.
