Water Taxi Beach Plays Host To New York Craft Beer Week Special Event
LONG ISLAND CITY, NY. September 9, 2010 - The Long Island City Craft Beer Festival, one of the special events kicking off the 2010 New York Craft Beer Week, will be held at Water Taxi Beach in Long Island City on Saturday, September 25, 2010. A limited number of tickets are available to the general public and can be purchased at www.LICCraftBeerFest.com. Water Taxi Beach is located at 2 Borden Ave. in Long Island City, easily accessible by car, subway, LIRR and, of course, water taxi.
One of the most anticipated events of New York Craft Beer Week (www.nycbeerweek.com) and the official kick off of a week-long celebration of beer and brewing, The Long Island City Craft Beer Festival will feature more than twenty-five craft brewers who will offer samples of their best brews to festival attendees. The event is also recognized as an official polling place for the 2010 Samuel Adams Beer Lover's Choice national taste test. Since 2005 the brewers of Samuel Adams have been offering drinkers a voice in choosing one of the new beers they will introduce in the coming year. This trend continues as the Boston Beer Company, the makers of Samuel Adams; take two recipes on the road to be judged in a head-to-head consumer taste test. Festival goers can sample and vote on premise.
The festival will showcase a broad range of national craft beer industry leaders, including Samuel Adams (MA), Founders (MI), Thomas Hooker (CT), Magic Hat (VT), Speakeasy (CA), Sea Dog (ME), Boulder (CO), Little Kings (OH), Hometown (NJ), Goose Island (IL), Blue Moon (CO), and others. The New York craft beer scene will be well-represented by amazing local craft breweries including: Fire Island Beer Co., Blue Point Brewing Company, Southampton Ales & Lagers, Long Ireland Beer Company, and Greenport Harbor Brewing Company. Participating for the first time at the festival will be two new breweries from Long Island, Great South Bay Brewery and Barrier Brewing. Rounding out the offerings will be a few international favorites as well, Unibroue (CANADA), Hofbräuhaus München (Germany), Sopporo (JAPAN), and Radeberger (Germany).
The Long Island City Craft Beer Fest will offer two ticketing options, an afternoon session (12:30-4:00pm) and an evening session (5:30-9:00pm). A pay-one-price ticket allows adults 21+ to enjoy a fun day of beer sampling with the most beautiful backdrop in the world-the NYC skyline. Tickets are $45 when purchased online, in advance, at www.LICCraftBeerFest.com or $55 at the door if the event is not sold out. A sell out is expected. Tickets include a 6 oz. souvenir tasting glass with the freedom to enjoy 2 oz. samples from any exhibiting brewery. Food will be available for sale. Designated driver tickets are available for $10 each. No one under 21 is permitted and photo ID is required for entry. The event will take place rain or shine. Water Taxi Beach is located at 2 Borden Ave. in Long Island City. It is easily accessible from several pick up points in Manhattan via Water Taxi, as well as by car, subway and LIRR.
The event is produced by Starfish Junction, winner of two prestigious awards honoring events produced for the beer industry: The 2008 Philly Craft Beer Fest (www.PhillyCraftBeerFest.com) was named one of the "Top 10 Beer Festivals in America" by Forbes Traveler and The 2007 North Fork Craft Beer, BBQ & Wine Festival (www.NorthForkCraftBeerFestival.com) was awarded the North Fork "Event of the Year" honor from Dan's Papers.
