Hard Cider Festival Comes to Long Island's Wine Country October 20

CUTCHOGUE, NY. September 17, 2012 - Award-winning event producer Starfish Junction, confirmed today the launch of Pour the Core: A Hard Cider Festival. The festival will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at the Peconic Bay Winery located at 31320 Main Road in Cutchogue, Long Island, NY. The event will offer more than thirty local, regional and international hard ciders for sampling. Ticket and info is available at

More Americans are quenching their thirst with hard cider than in the recent past. While cider sales in the U.S. are on the rise (reporting $448.8 million in retail sales last year-an increase of 23% from 2010 according to Euromonitor International), making and selling cider is anything but new. This once-sleepy alcohol category is enjoying a remarkable renaissance driven by both breweries and wineries taking advantage of the fast-growing interest and appeal. Hard cider producers are also securing a fast-growing fan base among those who are unable to enjoy beer due to their intolerance to gluten.

"When we started producing hard cider two years ago we couldn't have known that just a short time later it would turn out to be one of the hottest trending beverages in the country," shared James Silver, General Manager at Peconic Bay Winery, producers of two hard apple ciders, True Believer and True Companion. "Naturally, we're pleased that customers describe our ciders as delicious. We like very much being the top end of the quality cider spectrum and we intend to keep our production limited and local, always fresh and well-made," added Silver. "We were thrilled to be chosen by Starfish Junction as the location for their first east coast hard cider festival and look forward to welcoming all those apple enthusiasts to our home."

Pour the Core, Long Island's very first hard cider festival, will showcase the finest locally-produced and internationally-sourced ciders-more than 30 in all. Featured at the festival will be hard ciders from event host, Peconic Bay Winery, a variety of imported ciders and perries from England, Ireland, and Sweden; and popular favorites from Woodchuck, McKenzie's, Angry Orchard, and others. "We are extremely excited about sampling Angry Orchard hard ciders at Pour the Core in October," said Jonathan Galeno, Sr. Account Manager at The Boston Beer Company, makers of Angry Orchard ciders. "We will be showcasing our three core styles Crisp Apple, Traditional Dry, and Apple Ginger."

Three local breweries-Blue Point Brewing Company,; Port Jeff Brewing Company, and Long Ireland Beer Company-will also be offering samples of their fall seasonal brews to event attendees. Select Long Island wineries will also be participating.

The event will take place outdoors, under tents nestled into the beautiful fall foliage on the grounds of the Peconic Bay Winery located at 31320 Main Road in Cutchogue, NY. The event will take place rain or shine. Food will be available for sale. A seasonal menu, including many gluten-free options, is being created by local caterer Maple Tree BBQ. There will also be music and special seminars about cider, the making of cider, and the enjoyment of cider.

Pour the Core ( will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2012 from 1:00pm - 4:00pm. A limited number of tickets will be sold. Once the event sells out, no additional tickets will be available for purchase. Tickets are $40 each when purchased in advance at the event website or $65 at the door on event day (if the event is not sold out). Designated driver tickets are also available online for $10.
