Long Islanders Vote for Beer of the Year
Croxley's Owners to be Honored with Pioneer Award
Golden Tap Awards Gala May 14

PATCHOGUE, NY. (May 3, 2013) - The Golden Tap Awards Gala, one of the premiere events of Long Island Craft Beer Week, will be held at 89 North in Patchogue, NY on Tuesday, May 14, 2013. Awards will be given in a number of "people's choice" categories, including Best Beer Bar and New Beer of the Year. Public voting began on Friday, April 26, 2013 at www.LongIslandCraftBeerWeek.com and will end at noon on Thursday, May 9, 2013. Winners will remain confidential until publicly revealed at the awards gala. www.GoldenTaps.com. Golden Taps will be awarded to winners in all aspects of the craft beer industry including people's choice for Best Beer Bar Nassau County, Best Beer Bar Suffolk County, Best Long Island Brewery Tap Handle, Best Long Island Homebrew Shop, and Best Long Island New Beer of the Year (released in 2012). A special panel of Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) judges has been assembled and will be doing blind evaluations to crown one Long Island brewery with the 2013 Long Island Beer Of The Year award-the most coveted prize of the night. In a separate survey, industry business owners will vote for Best Long Island Brewery Sales Rep.

This year's Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Mr. Chris Werle and Mr. Jeffry Piciullo, the owners of the Croxley's Ale House franchise, now celebrating 20 years in the craft beer bar business. "We are honored to have even been noticed for just doing what we love to do," said Piciullo. "It means we've been drinking a lot of good beer for a long time and that if you believe in something like the craft beer movement you stick with it through the ups and downs," he added.

Unique for this year will be a special Humanitarian Award recognizing extraordinary efforts displayed in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Presenters for the evening include representatives from the beer industry as well as local business owners and special guests.

The emcee for the evening's festivities is Long Island native and funny man Joe DeVito. Joe's TV appearances include performances on "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson", "Gotham Comedy Live", and Comedy Central's "Live at Gotham."

Primarily an industry event, a limited number of tickets will be available for sale to the general public. Tickets include admission to the semi-formal gala, beer sampling, and light fare. Tickets can be purchased at www.GoldenTaps.com. Tickets are $55. This is a 21+ event. The event will be held at 89 North, 89 North Ocean Ave, in Patchogue, NY 11772. Funds raised will support Long Island Craft Beer Week (LICBW) and its charity partners. LICBW is a 501(c)3 entity.
