Free Pint Glass Promo Kicks Off 2013 Long Island Craft Beer Week
BAY SHORE, NY. (April 18, 2013) - The third annual Long Island Craft Beer Week (LICBW), a 10-day celebration of artisanal and locally crafted beer, will take place from May 10-19, 2013. It will feature a wide variety of events including: tap takeovers, beer dinners; educational programs; a cask festival, an award gala, and a variety of specials events at bars, breweries, retailers, and restaurants island-wide. To kick off the week this year, the public is encouraged to go online and register for a free souvenir pint glass, sponsored in part by The Shark: 94.3FM.
The Free Pint Glass Promo is now underway and runs through May 7th (or while supplies last). There is no cost or obligation, adults 21+ must register by clicking on the link at www.LongIslandCraftBeerWeek.com and select the pickup location at your favorite neighborhood bar, restaurant, or brewery. Quantities are limited. All pickups will be made on May 9th (times vary by location).
Long Island Craft Beer Week was created to raise awareness of the thriving local and national craft beer culture and to promote patronage at local establishments in both Nassau and Suffolk counties. For the local beer lover, LICBW will introduce craft beer to those who may never have tried it and will delight, though special events, the palates of the more experienced aficionado. LICBW also "celebrates the home brewer-those guys and gals who brew beer in their kitchens, backyards and garages for personal enjoyment and to share with family and friends," said Todd Long, president of Long Island Beer and Malt Enthusiasts homebrew club. "Beer Week is truly a celebration of craft beer, and after all what are we here for? We're here for the beer!"
"For my business, it's a chance to have people who may otherwise not know about me and my store, stop by and discover who we are and what we do," said Dave Shultzer, owner of Bellport Cold Beer & Soda. "More exposure equals more sales, more faces equal more friends," he added.
Long Island's craft beer scene continues to flourish. Since last year's Long Island Craft Beer Week, Greenport Harbor Brewing Company began construction on their second production facility in Peconic; Long Island officially welcomed two new local breweries, Montauk Brewing Company (Montauk) and Barrage Brewing (Farmingdale); and several more craft breweries have filed for permits with the State Liquor Authority and are hoping for approvals soon.
Several events are building to create a fantastic week for Long Island beer lovers. A current list is available at www.LongIslandCraftBeerWeek.com and include many outstanding events, including Bay Fest on May 11 at the Great South Bay Brewery in Bay Shore; Dogfish Head brewery Tap Takeover on May 13 at The Tap Room (Patchogue); The Golden Tap Awards Gala on May 14 at 89 North (Patchogue); Meet the Brewer: Port Jeff Taps and Apps Takeover on May 16 at Ruvo East (Port Jefferson); and the annual T.J. Finley's Cask Fest on May 18 at T.J. Finley's in Bay Shore.
Different levels of participation are available for businesses that wish to be part of the celebration. Official Long Island Craft Beer Week sponsors include: The New York State Brewers Association, L.I.B.M.E. (Long Island Beer and Malt Enthusiasts) Homebrew Club, and www.LIBeerEvents.com, Long Island's local beer calendar.
Long Island Craft Beer Week is a non-profit organization overseen by an executive board comprised of brewery owners, distributors, restaurateurs, retailers, event marketers. More information about the 2013 Long Island Craft Beer Week can be found at www.LongIslandCraftBeerWeek.com.
