Hard Cider Event Celebrates Apple Growing Season at Frecon Farms
Boyertown, PA - Award-winning event producer, Starfish Junction, is teaming up with Pennsylvania local hard cider company, Frecon’s Cidery, to debut a one-of-a-kind apple celebration called Wassail. The event will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Frecon Farms located at 231 Powder Mill Hollow Road in Boyertown, PA 19512, and will feature local bluegrass and folk band favorites, the Manatawny Creek Ramblers, Mason Porter, and La Overtoner who will perform live in the orchard. The entire Frecon’s Cidery portfolio of hard ciders will be available for tasting, including The Crabby Granny, The Early Man and The Hogshead – all gluten-free and made from apples grown at Frecon Farms. Designated drivers and those ‘under 21’ in attendance will be able to enjoy freshly pressed, sweet cider. Hillbilly BBQ, Vernalicious and WildeFire Trading Authentic Wood Fired Pizza will each offer food pairings to accompany the ciders.
What is “Wassail”, you ask? Wassail is a term that has evolved throughout history but early Englishmen used the term as a simple greeting. Eventually, ‘wassail’ was used as a toast in ritualized drinking but today; the term means more of hail to a healthy and fortunate harvest. People in the act of ‘wassailing’ will sing and drink to awaken the cider apple trees, scare away evil spirits in the orchard and toast the health of the trees to ensure a plentiful harvest of fruit in the fall. Frecon’s Cidery’s Wassail will continue some of the age old English traditions, such as some of the timeless carols, while celebrating the arrival of this year’s growing season. “We are excited to help Frecon’s Cidery plan their first Wassail to celebrate the release of their ciders and kick-off the Frecon Farms growing season,” stated Event Manager, Kristyn Dolan. “By bringing Wassail to Boyertown, we will continue the tradition of wassailing and remind the community of everything the farm has to offer, including cider!”
The event will take place on Saturday, May 3rd, 2014 from 12pm-5pm outdoors in the beautiful Frecon Farms orchard, rain or shine. Tents will be provided for shade and shelter. General admission tickets are $30 each and include an 8oz. hard cider with a food pairing. Tickets are available for designated drivers and individuals under 21 for $15 – fresh, sweet cider will be substituted for hard cider. All general admission ticketholders will be required to show valid photo ID for entry into the event.
