Beer Fest Returns to Navy Yard May 31 Summer's Best Beer Fest

PHILADELPHIA, PA, May 1, 2014 - Starfish Junction Productions, co-producer of the award-winning Philly Craft Beer Festival, selected as one of the "Top Ten Beer Festivals in America", returns to Philadelphia for the 6th Annual International Great Beer Expo. The biggest names in international brewing will gather on the Parade Grounds at the Philadelphia Navy Yard on Saturday, May 31, 2014 for what promises to be the summer's best beer fest. "This is going to be our best show yet," said Andy Calimano, owner of Starfish Junction, producer of the event. "We can't think of a better way to kick off Philly Beer Week. New Belgium is coming to the Philadelphia market for Philly Beer Week only and making their festival debut at the International Great Beer Expo. They will be pouring some of their flagship beers as well as some special beers that are hard to find," added Calimano.
This international beer tasting extravaganza will showcase nearly 100 breweries from across the globe, each providing samples of their country's proudest brewing achievement. Shoulder to shoulder with some of America's best breweries will be amazing breweries from around the world, including Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Lebanon, New Zealand, Peru, Spain, Turkey, and many others.
The event will feature beer from top American and international breweries, special guests, and educational seminars led by industry pros and pioneers covering topics as varied as pairing beer with popcorn, sponsored by Punjabi Popcorn, and pairing beer with chocolate, sponsored by 2Chicks With Chocolate. A press breakfast is scheduled as a pre-event activity for invited media guests to meet and greet brewers and special guests.
This year's special guests include Brent Celek, tight end for the Philadelphia Eagles and co-owner of Philly's Prime Stache restaurant who will meet and greet attendees and do a signings for charity.
Food will be available for sale from select members of the Philadelphia Mobile Food Association (PMFA), including Chewy's, The Cow and the Curd, Foo Truck, Oink and Moo BBQ, Prime Stache, and The Tot Cart.
The event will help raise funds for the Philadelphia Committee to Benefit the Children (CBC), a local charity that provides resources for treatment, care and family support to benefit area children with cancer, leukemia and serious blood disorders. The CBC will be conducting a food drive for local needy families in their network. Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for donation.
The International Great Beer Expo will have two sessions: VIP 12:30-5:00 pm and General Admission 1:30-5:00 pm. The VIP session will give VIP ticketholders an additional hour at the festival, more intimate access to brewers, and the ability to try rare and sought-after beers that are only being poured at this VIP session. VIP and General Admission tickets include admission, a souvenir tasting glass, and the freedom to enjoy a 2 oz. sample of any of the beers present at the Expo. No one under 21, including designated drivers, will be admitted. All attendees must show valid photo ID for entry. A limited number of tickets will be sold.
