Spud Lovers Unite for 2nd Annual Potato Festival
With Roots on the East End

CALVERTON, N.Y., May 13, 2015 - After a successful first sprouting last year, the Long Island Potato Festival will be returning to the East End on August 9, 2015 at Calverton Links located at 149 Edwards Avenue, Calverton, NY 11933 from 11am-4pm. Join event producers Starfish Junction and your fellow couch potatoes as we celebrate all things potato. We promise that the day will be family-friendly fun from starch to finish!

Spud lovers are invited to come show their enthusiasm by participating in the many contests that the Long Island Potato Festival is proud to offer. Festival organizers are excited to bring back the "Mashed Potato Sculpting" contest, "Best Amateur Potato Salad" contest, "Great Potato Peeling Race," and a "Mashed Potato Eating" contest. Attendees are sure to have their fill of all things potato by the time the day comes to a close! Demonstrations and seminars, such as an educational "How to Cook with Potatoes" will give attendees a first-hand look at all the root can do. Once you've learned how to cook it, make sure to grab the whole family for fun with rounds of Hot Potato! and potato sack races.

Long Island Potato Festival Event Manager Eric dos Reis is excited about everything the second year of the festival will offer. "Local farmers are bringing new and old equipment so attendees will be able to get a hands-on look into the deeper process behind potato farming. We're going to have free tastings of potato products as well, so everyone will be able to see potatoes from start-to-finish," states dos Reis, who continued, "between the music, contests, seminars, and games, there's never going to be a dull moment!"

Tickets for the Long Island Potato Festival can be purchased online at LIPotatoFest.com for $20.00 each, and include admission to the festival plus access to all programs, live music, samples of potato products, and free parking. Children 12 and under are admitted free, but should obtain a ticket via the event website. Food will be available to purchase from local food trucks and vendors, and attendees can be sure there will be no shortage of potatoes! A portion of proceeds will go toward the event's charity partner, the Alzheimer's Association. Come and deepen your roots with us as we celebrate the second annual Long Island Potato Festival!
