Local Breweries Battle in New Competition
Long Island Craft Classic Producers Announce Mystery Ingredient
July 11, 2017 - East Islip, NY. When the 2nd annual Long Island Craft Classic returns to Heckscher State Park on August 12th, it will mark the very first Long Island BREW’D competition. The BREW’D competition pits Long Island breweries against each other in a head-to-head taste-off. Earlier this summer eight Long Island breweries signed up for a brewing competition knowing there would be a mystery ingredient with which they had to brew. Finally, on June 30th, the mystery ingredient was announced—PEACH. Breweries can brew any style of beer they want, but must incorporate peach into their recipe. www.LICraftClassic.com
“This competition brings yet another fun and intriguing aspect to the Craft Classic,” said Kristyn Dolan, director of event production and sales with Starfish Junction Productions. “Brewers are thrilled about making their one-of-a-kind peach beers exclusively for this festival and its attendees,” making the Classic even more unique than ever. The next big beer could very well come from this adding a truly unique aspect to the beer and wine festival. 86% of the 2016 surveyed festival attendees planned on purchasing one of the new beers they tried at the festival within the months to follow, Dolan and her team are excited to see how this competition turns out and what could come of these beers.
2017 competitors include: Blue Point Brewing Company (Patchogue), BrickHouse Brewery (Patchogue), Greenport Harbor Brewing Company (Greenport), Lithology Brewing Co. (Farmingdale), Long Ireland Beer Company (Riverhead), Moustache Brewing Co. (Riverhead), Port Jeff Brewing Company (Port Jefferson), and Spider Bite Beer Co. (Holbrook).
Ticket holders will have the chance to taste these specially brewed peach beers and vote on-site at the Long Island Craft Classic for their favorite. The winner will be announced at the end of the day and crowned the 2017 BREW’D champion. The winning brewery will be able to put the “Stanley Cup-style” trophy on display at their brewery for an entire year.
The Long Island Craft Classic will be held on August 12, 2017 at Heckscher State Park (1 Heckscher State Pkwy, East Islip, NY 11730). The event offers two ticket options for attendees: VIP (1:00-5:30 pm; $75pp) and General Admission (2:00-5:30pm; $55pp).
