Hard Cider Festival, Awarded Event of the Year, Returns to The Navy Yard

September 5, 2017 – Philadelphia, PA - Pour the Core: A Hard Cider Festival - Philly, which was named the “2016 East Region Event of the Year” by the United States Association of Cider Makers, is set to return for its 5th annual event at The Navy Yard in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Attendees will be able to sample over 100 types of ciders from local producers like Sir Charles Hard Cider and Big Hill Ciderworks, national brands such as Crispin and Smith & Forge, and international cider makers for instance Strongbow.  The festival will be held on October 21, 2017 from 12:30 pm to 4:00 pm.  Tickets for the festival are on sale now at

A major highlight of the hard cider festival is the Cider Donut Eating Contest.  Twenty-five festival attendees will test their donut eating skills for a prize package valued over $500, plus bragging rights until the next Pour the Core: Philly.  Ticketholders are able to register in advance on the event website,, or sign-up at the event if space remains.  Contestants will receive a locally baked cider donut from Frecon Farms, which will be hung from a string.  The contestant who eats their donut fastest without using their hands will be declared the winner.  “Last year, we did an apple pie eating contest and spectators crowded around to watch. This year, we’re hoping the donut eating contest, that we do in other cities, converts those spectators into contestants.  It’s a great way to get the attendees involved!” said Event Manager Kristyn Dolan.

Pour the Core: Philly benefits the Committee to Benefit the Children (CBC), a non-profit organization, based out of St. Christopher’s Hospital, dedicated to enhancing the lives of children and their families who face cancer, leukemia and serious blood disorders.  A portion of net proceeds from ticket sales will go towards the organization. Attendees are asked to participate in a food drive, that will be conducted at the event, and bring non-perishable food items to donate towards the organization’s food bank.

This festival will feature a wide array of ciders, as well as delicious food from some of Philadelphia’s most popular food trucks. Furthermore, there will be free seminars such as a cider and cheese pairing with Cabot Creamery and several cider producers will have bottles available to purchase for off-premise consumption.  Attendees who save their festival wristband can also bring it to the Sir Charles Hard Cider Tasting Room, located at 1526 North American Street, to receive 15% off food and merchandise purchases.

Pour the Core will be held on October 21, 2017 from 12:30 pm - 4:00 pm at The Navy Yard in Philadelphia, PA.  Tickets are on sale now at  General admission tickets ($45) include a five ounce souvenir tasting cup, sponsored by Woodchuck Hard Cider, and the freedom to enjoy two ounce tastings from any participating cider producer.  Designated driver tickets are available to purchase for $12 each.  This is a 21+ event and a valid ID is required for entry.  No children or pets are permitted.  This event will take place rain or shine, under tents.  All ticket sales are final.  The Navy Yard is located at 4747 South Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA.  For tickets and information please visit
