What is Bourbon Derby de Mayo?
BOURBON FEST + KENTUCKY DERBY + CINCO de MAYO

And You Thought Only Tequila Comes from Mexico...

May 2, 2018—Elmont, N.Y.  Long Island event producer, Starfish Junction, has created the trifecta of fun with the smartly nicknamed event, Bourbon Derby de Mayo.  The first-ever bourbon tasting event will be held at Belmont Park Racetrack on Saturday May 5th—the same day as the running of the 144th Kentucky Derby and, the party of all parties, Cinco de Mayo.

Bourbon At Belmont is hosted in conjunction with the New York Racing Association (NYRA).  This special event will feature more than twenty-five bourbons for tasting, a selection of craft beers that have been bourbon barrel-aged, a live simulcast transmission of the Kentucky Derby race, grandstand viewing of the track to enjoy live event day thoroughbred racing, and convenient betting windows.  Tickets for the festival are on sale now at the event website www.BourbonAtBelmont.com.  Tickets for this special event are very limited, a sell-out is expected.  This is a 21+ event.

Move over margaritas.  Get ready for a new way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo!  With the growing popularity of whiskey, many attendees will be introduced to Sierra Norte, the only aged Mexican whiskey in the marketplace.  Coming from the birthplace of corn (Oaxaca, Mexico), the native corn whiskies are produced from different varieties of ancient, flavorful Oaxacan corn—black, yellow and white.  Just last month, America's foremost spirits magazine, Whisky Advocate rated Sierra Norte “A Whiskey of Superior Character and Style.”  Each of the Sierra Norte expressions is made from 85% native corn and 15% barley mash before they are aged for 8 months in French Oak casks.

Joining Sierra Norte single barrel Mexican whiskey will be local distillers like Kings County Distillery, Pine Barrens Whisky, Rough Rider Bourbon, and Widow Jane Distilling Company. Side-by-side with the local producers will be such prestigious brands as Woodford Reserve, Jim Beam, Basil Hayden, Knob Creek, Maker’s Mark, Wild Turkey, Buffalo Trace, and many others.  A specially-selected lineup of locally-produced and nationally praised bourbon barrel-aged beers will also be sampled.

The Bourbon At Belmont event will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018 from 3:00pm – 7:00pm  Tickets ($95) include bourbon and beer sampling, grandstand viewing of the day’s live scheduled races, the simulcast of the Kentucky Derby (6:34pm ET), and a souvenir taster glass.  The event will be held in the North Shore Terrace viewing pavilion on the fourth floor of the Belmont Park Racetrack.  A limited number of tickets will be sold.  Once the event sells out, no additional tickets will be available for purchase.  Food is available for purchase from venue concessions.  Designated driver tickets are also available for $12 each.  No one under 21, including designated drivers, will be admitted and photo ID is required for entry.  Parking is $3.00 per car.  Belmont Park Racetrack is located at 2150 Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont, NY.  Ticket links and info for the festival is available at www.BourbonAtBelmont.com.
