Drive-In Movie Attendees Get Treats, No Tricks
Special Event Sponsored by Ronald McDonald House
LAKE GROVE, NY. October 15, 2020 – Based on the continued popularity of the pop-up drive-in experience, Long Island event producer Starfish Junction has announced the latest lineup in their drive-in movie series for the weekend of October 23rd – October 24th at the Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove, NY. The schedule includes a Halloween-themed lineup of everyone’s most-loved seasonal favorites and a spooky midnight showing of The RIng. Trick-or-treat alley, a fun activity to do safely from your car will be open for early show ticket holders each day and is sponsored by Ronald McDonald House. Information on the schedule, safety guidelines, show times and ticket availability, is available at www.MovieLotDriveIn.com.
MOVIE LOT, a pop-up drive-in movie experience, has entertained over 4,000 cars since it launched in May 2020 and “we’re finalizing the details on a Spooktacular weekend of Halloween movies to entertain young and old,” said Lauren Powers, Senior Director at Starfish Junction . “We’re working with the local Ronald McDonald House staff to host a pandemic-compliant trick-or-treat alley for ticketholders who attend the first movie each day. It’s going to be a fun and safe way to celebrate Halloween this year,” added Powers. The much-anticipated list for the next round of movies, shown on the giant 52-foot screen—the largest on Long Island—erected in the parking lot of the Smith Haven Mall, includes:
• 10/23: Ghostbusters 7:15pm (with trick-or-treat alley)
• 10/23: Beetlejuice 10:00pm
• 10/24: Monsters Inc. 7:15pm (with trick-or-treat alley)
• 10/24: Hocus Pocus 9:45pm
• 10/24: The Ring 12:00 midnight
Trick or Treat Alley (available both Friday and Saturday, before 7:15pm shows only): a safe way to add a little fun to the drive-in movie experience. After movie ticket holders get their tickets scanned, they will proceed, in their car, down a row of sponsor tents collecting treats along the way. Ticket processing starts at 6:00pm for Friday and Saturday early movies. Trick-or-Treat Alley is sponsored by Ronald McDonald House.
Special Guests: Friday, prior to the showing of Ghostbusters, ticketholders can attend a meet and greet with the Long Island Ghostbusters troop and pose for pictures with their Ghostbusters car. For Star Wars fans, one of the original garrisons of the definitive Star Wars© costuming organization, ECG , will be on-site for safety-compliant meet and greet prior to the early shows on both Friday night and Saturday night.
Lake Grove was among the first Long Island towns to offer post-quarantine entertainment for local residents. With sold-out showings, MOVIE LOT’s success confirmed that Long Islanders were ready for a fun and safe way to embrace the lack of entertainment options as shelter-in-place restrictions loosened.
While movie theaters remain closed and entertainment options remain limited, Starfish Junction has positioned itself as one of the leaders here on Long Island, owning the biggest pop-up drive-in screen, 52-feet, available locally. There are a limited number of tickets available for each showing. Tickets are on sale now ($40 per carload for early shows, $30 per carload for late night shows). For the ultimate Halloween movie experience, a special-value double-feature ticket is available on Friday and includes admission to Ghostbusters AND Beetlejuice ($55 per carload). All tickets must be purchased online in advance at the MOVIE LOT website to adhere to the promise of contactless processing.
Ticketholders are permitted to bring their own food and snacks to enjoy during the show. Attendees may also consider Smith Haven Mall restaurants for curbside pick up before filing into the lot for the movie. Portable restrooms will be available for use. The Smith Haven Mall is located in Lake Grove, NY. The showings will take place rain or shine, all ticket sales are final. Tickets and info at www.MovieLotDriveIn.com.
Movie Lot Drive-In is supported locally by great media partners including WBAB, WBLI, News12, Newsday and others. The weekend’s community charity partner is Ronald McDonald House. The event is produced by Starfish Junction.
